Famous wmode bug in FlashPlayer
Recently I have found nice workaround for this bug on Nicolas Cynober’s site. It’s done completely in Actionscript/MXML. This class works with arabic, belgian, french, german, swiss and (this is my part) polish keyboard. It’s very easy to define your own language! I also made this working on spark components (previously – on Nicolas Cynober’s site – it worked on mx components).

Flex Challenge Academic Tour 2009 in Torun
Posted by Maciej Pańka in Main on December 3rd, 2009
On November 16th Piotr Walczyszyn, polish Adobe Platform Evangelist visited our home town, Torun in Poland, to give a lecture for our students from Nicolaus Copernicus University. During his speach, which was a part of Flex Challenge Academic Tourn 2009 he was talking about Flex and AIR programming technologies. After his lecture I also added few things myself under the topic called “Flex for server side developers”, where I was presenting the possibilities of integrating Flex with PHP and Java server side codes.
During this event we also had a chance to talk with Piotr for a while in front of the camera. I’m publishing for you all those three videos we made – sorry, all of them are polish only
.

Flash for iPhone!
Posted by Tomasz Orliński in Main on October 6th, 2009

Today Adobe has announced, that Flash Professional CS5 will have a capability of building native iPhone apps from Flash/AS3 source. It will even be possible to use Flex framework to build iPhone applications (what is however not recommended due to possible performance issues). More details can be found on Adobe Labs site.
Solution provided is unfortunately not the one everybody was looking for, but on the other hand Adobe confirms working on Flash Player 10 for iPhone. What’s good, is that we will finally have a full Flash (not a baby-Flash) on mobile device. I think, that there is much hope for decent performance (especially on iPhone 3Gs), because apps will be compiled natively for ARM uC. On the other hand there are some downsides of this way of running Flash on iPhone – with the biggest one – inability to run Flash apps directly from Safari and need to use AppStore to deliver our application to the client. I hope, that IPA compilation will be only the next step on the way to full Flash on iPhone and possibly other mobile devices.

From AMFPHP to ZendAMF in 3 simple steps
Posted by Tomasz Orliński in Main on July 25th, 2009
The easiest and most effective way of communicating Flex application with PHP server was using the AMF protocol and AMFPHP libraries. Some people (including me) got accustomed to them, so the presentation of the new tool – ZendAMF – which is going to (in some way) replace AMFPHP, was not a very good news – AMFPHP was doing its job perfectly well, so learning new tool seemed to be waste of time. Warsaw Flash Camp 2009
Posted by Tomasz Orliński in Main on June 12th, 2009

Last Tuesday we participated in Warsaw Flash Camp 2009. It was such a fabulous event, that we are looking forward for the next one. What we liked the most, was the new Adobe Catalyst, which will probably make developers’ lives much easier. We would like to say thank you to people organising, sponsoring and participating in Flash Camp. Stay tuned for blog entries about technologies we have learned about on the Camp!
Flex timer is inaccurate – sample solution
Posted by Maciej Pańka in Main on June 9th, 2009
Timer is, without a doubt, one of the most useful classes in Action Script 3 (Flex and AIR frameworks). It allows you to run various tasks at specific time or repeat them in a loop for a predefined intervals. I know, it’s absolutely nothing special these days, cause it’s available in most modern programming languages, like for example in Java. And that’s why it came with a bit of a shock to me, that apparently AS3’s Timer class seems to be corrupted! I mean, it definitely is working very stable and it has all the methods you need to control it’s flow. But in some cases it’s very difficult to make it work as precisely as you would want it to.
